What if every person involved in a CPM system implementation would be represented by a famous song?

Below is our ranking of the top five “CPM hits.”

So put on your headphones, pump up the volume and here we go!

We’ll make things right, we’ll feel it all tonight
We’ll find a way to offer up the night tonight
The indescribable moments of your life tonight
The impossible is possible tonight
Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight

Don’t worry, consultants have the recipe for a successful implementation. They know what you want before you want it. All they ask is that you put your trust in them. And can they achieve the impossible? “It depends.”

Don’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for.
You can’t tell me it’s not worth dyin’ for.
You know it’s true:
Everything I do, I do it for you

The consolidator is the loyal servent to the “Financial close cause” and is the one in direct communications with the CFO. He will work day and night to be in time for the next board meeting. He is the one-man-show behind your company’s figures. Trust him…and maybe also consider letting him buy a new CPM solution instead of letting him work on Excel.

Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world

Like the Fab Four, he is repeating these words like a mantra. His spreadsheets have been working since the beginning of time and there is no way to convince him there is an easier way with less errors to do his job. But the reality is that software with an Excel front-end could make his life much easier and change his world for the better.

I can’t stand to fly
I’m not that naive
I’m just out to find
The better part of me

This person is the role model that everyone should follow. Every finance department deserves one “Super User.” Always struggling between the desire to break the technical boundaries of the system and the need of acceptance by the rest of his team. You should consider this person to be a precious resource to utilize, rather than something to be intimidated by.

All night long! (all night)
All night long! (all night)
All night long! (all night)

Unlike Lionel Richie, rather than partying, he is drafting the 22nd release of next year’s budget. And of course it needs to be split by product, region, category…along with a myriad of other combinations which make for a very long night!

Listen all you people, come gather round
I gotta get me a game plan, gotta shake you to the ground
But just give me, huh, what I know is mine
People do you hear me, just gimme the sign
It ain’t much I’m asking, if you want the truth
Here’s to the future for the dreams of youth

He is the boss, and he wants the impossible made possible. Of course the deadline was yesterday. Can you blame him? Making the impossible possible is what makes a company succesful.
